How Gutter Guard Technology Can Protect Your Home

Most homes have gutters because they have a number of benefits and serve a good purpose. By managing the rain that falls on your roof properly, your home is saved from damage that could result from water flowing all along your home’s foundation. Unfortunately, gutters can also do more harm than good if they are not properly maintained. The biggest problem with guttering is when they become clogged with debris, such as leaves and twigs. The flow of water is then impeded and can lead to all kinds of water damage. Even if you are fairly diligent about cleaning out the gutters regularly, it doesn’t take much to create a problem. One solution is to take advantage of gutter guard technology.

Having a gutter guard installed on your home’s guttering will enable most debris to flow off the gutter rather than into it. This allows water to flow into the gutters and then to the downspouts as intended. When guttering becomes clogged with water, or even just partially obstructed, water is forced to find a different path. Unfortunately, that path is often up under your roofing and even into your attic. This will shorten the life of your roof, as well as result in water damage to your attic and even exterior walls.

When wood continually becomes saturated, it becomes like a buffet table to insects. Roaches and other insects are drawn to water sources, and some insects such as carpenter ants aren’t just a nuisance; they set to work on the wood itself, causing structural damage to your home. Furthermore, if the water sloshes over the guttering, you run the risk of all the same problems you would have had with no guttering at all. In the worst situations, your gutters could also become a perfect place for plant life to take root, and those roots can cause damage, as well.

At G&S Contracting, Inc., we install gutter guard technology throughout the Mooresville, North Carolina area. You can feel confident that you are making your home as impervious to rain as possible, as the gutter guard keeps debris from making your gutters the cause of damage to your home.
