Preparing for a Window Replacement Project

A full window replacement project can be very overwhelming, and you probably have a lot of questions. What do I need to do before the window installers arrive? How long will it take to replace my windows? Will my house look like a piece of Swiss cheese for several days, enabling the wind, rain, and numerous birds and insects to fly through the holes and take up residence in my living room?  Open lines of communication with your chosen window installation company is the key to preparing for the project and understanding exactly what will happen.

First, it helps to know that window replacement is a progressive project. The window installers will only remove 1 or 2 windows at a time and replace them immediately, leaving no holes for unwanted visitors. Your privacy and standard of living will not be compromised.

There are several things you should do before the window installers arrive to make the process go more smoothly. For example, you should remove all window accessories (like blinds, shades, and curtains), so they will have easy access to your windows. You should also remove all plants and decorations from window sills and ledges. Some pieces of furniture may need to be moved, as well. For example, if you have a couch underneath the living room window or a display case of fragile items right next to it, those items should be moved to a safe distance.

Double-check the paperwork you signed to make sure you are getting exactly what you agreed to. You’ll also need to make plans for what will happen to the old windows once they are removed. Ask the window replacement crew what will happen if the weather is bad on your planned installation day and what their cleanup policies are. These are all issues that need to be addressed before and during a window replacement project.

As always, if you have any questions or need any help with your window replacement project, give us a call at G&S Contracting, Inc..
