The Process of Window Installation and What to Keep in Mind

Window installation is a complicated job. Though the process may seem fairly straightforward – and for the most part, it is – certain steps, such as the exterior cladding, require specialized tools and the experience of someone who has done the job day in and day out. Window installation is not an impossible feat by any means, but the money spent to have the job done timely and correctly is certainly justifiable. So, if you do decide to have your window installation professionally done, what exactly is the process as relates to you? What should you do?

The company with which you are dealing will undoubtedly be willing to speak with you in detail about what you are expecting. Make sure you are specific in detailing your ideas and requirements. It's your home after all, and they are your windows. Luckily, in a market as competitive as that of window replacement, the company you are dealing with will want to be accommodating.

When the working crew is in your home, make sure to communicate. It might be a good idea to leave sticky-notes labeling specific reminders such as the size and type of window going in each space. Walk the foreman through and talk to him or her. As the work is going on, be within calling distance, but don't get in the way. If the work is going on for more than one day, insist that the workers don't leave any wooden covers overnight, but rather new or old windows in the space. Make sure they clean up, outside especially, and don't leave any tools lying around. Last of all, always be friendly and polite! It's never a bad idea to offer a drink on a hot day.
